Ovacik is Hisaronu’s sleepy neighbour. Overlooked by the colossal Babadag Mountain, surrounded by lush pine forests and offering distant views across the Oludeniz bay in some places, it’s predominantly residential with many fabulous hotels, villa and apartment lets to be found at great prices. Ovacik is popular with those that choose to live in the area permanently as it’s one of the closest areas to the famous lagoon where residential development is allowed. Recent years have seen Ovacik grow into a friendly and laid back resort with a welcome mountain breeze suiting all those looking for some peace and quiet yet still wishing to be within easy reach of the lively nearby resorts.
Ovacik and Hisaronu were once little villages where goats and chickens roamed freely (many still do!). The past 10 years have seen both areas grow considerably into popular resorts in their own right. Hisaronu is the party resort of the region centred on a thriving array of restaurants and bars, Ovacik is far more relaxed with numerous accommodation options spread to the back of the long, and restaurant lined main road leading from Fethiye to Oludeniz beach.
For families and those in search of some peace and quiet, the budget conscious, or anyone wanting to stay self-catering then Ovacik is perfect. With excellent transport links to the busy resort of Hisaronu (5 minutes), Oludeniz beach (10 minutes) or Fethiye Town (20 minutes), it’s an ideal and affordable base from where you can easily explore the region or simply lay back and enjoy the surroundings.
Ovacik is largely residential so those looking for action tend to gravitate towards the beach, day trips, jeep safaris, excursions, or visit the nearby resorts. The area is perhaps best known as the start of the Lycian Way walking route that runs along the beautiful coastline all the way up to Antalya. Early and late season sees Ovacik fill with walking groups and hikers keen to explore the area on foot and throughout the year, those interested in photography and nature are often found traipsing along the many lovely walking trails in the area.
Other activities include paragliding, micro-lighting, splashing around in the water park, horse riding or taking it easy with some good food and drinks in one of the many little Ovacik restaurants or bars.
Ovacik is a hill top valley so has no beach. The famous beaches and blue lagoon of Oludeniz are the closest and easily reached within 10 minutes via the local minibus (dolmus) or a short taxi ride.
